Measured in the lab

NORCE laboratory test: how much weight the shoulders carry

The Norwegian research institute NORCE measured backpacks for first-graders on a 3D model of a six-year-old child’s body. Pressure sensors at the Mechatronics Innovation Lab in Grimstad showed where the weight of the backpack rests. With Active AIR FLX backpacks the back and hips carry 62% of the weight, the shoulders only 38%.

The measurement took 30 seconds with a 2.5 kg load and with the hip belt, chest strap and top strap fastened. So always fasten the hip belt too – it’s the hip belt that takes the weight off the shoulders.

An ergonomic school backpack certified to DIN 33 419

The Ergonomic Product test is carried out by IGR, an association of back-school instructors, in line with DIN 33 419 and EN ISO 15537. It examines how well a backpack adapts to the bodies of real children. Both of our ranges for first-graders hold the certificate.

BECKMANN backpacks are recommended by doctors and chiropractors

We recommend this model to parents because it offers excellent ergonomics and build quality. For children with joint conditions, it is an important contribution to protecting them.

Dr. med. Rainer Berendespaediatric rheumatologist, St. Marien Children’s Hospital in Landshut, 2018The German Children’s Rheumatism Foundation (Deutsche Kinderrheuma-Stiftung) regularly gives BECKMANN backpacks to children from the rheumatology outpatient clinic.
